EduMarking: Promoting Inclusivity, Participation and Well Being: Furlong Park School for Deaf Children Case Study

EduMarking Playground markings cater to a variety of needs and preferences, encouraging participation and engagement in physical activities. Our markings are designed to foster inclusivity and offer engaging activities for children of all abilities, ensuring that every child can participate and benefit from the playground experience.

Inclusivity in playground design has numerous advantages, such as:

  • Making all users feel equally valued and accepted

  • Fostering communication and social skills

  • Supporting child development through unique play contexts and concepts

  • Encouraging friendships between different groups of children

Our range of playground markings accommodate diverse needs and preferences, enabling schools to create an inclusive environment that promotes physical activity and improves children’s overall well-being.

Case Study:

Recently we collaborated with Furlong Park School for Deaf Children in Victoria to transform their playground into a vibrant, educational, and inclusive space where their students can actively engage with their peers and with their learning, whilst having fun!

Some of the playground marking designs chosen by the school’s Leadership Team include:

Number Grid:

  • A great tool with which to develop and promote core mathematics skills and continuously challenge and develop student’s numeracy skills through play.

  • Large grids with numbers that students can use to practice counting, addition, subtraction and even simple multiplication through hopping or stepping on the correct sequence. Used by teachers to familiarise students with numbers and mathematical concepts supporting consolidation of learning and fostering critical thinking skills.

Sensory Path:

  • Sensory Paths create sensations or impulses that are triggered by anything that is visual or tactile. This design can significantly enhance the outdoor play experience, providing both structured (directional) and unstructured (imaginative) actions and opportunities for physical activity and play.  Having a Sensory Path on the playground will certainly stimulate the student’s brain!

  • Our Sensory Paths are designed with different textures and colours to engage children’s senses, supporting those with sensory processing needs while reinforcing learning concepts.

Alphabet Snake:

  • Animal themed Alphabet Path markings create a path of letters where children can hop from one to the next, saying the letter or forming words as they go.

  • Combining physical movement with visual cues helps reinforce literacy skills. As children jump, hop, or skip across lettered markings, they reinforce their understanding of the alphabet and word formation. Perfect for group play, promoting communication, teamwork, and social interaction while learning.

Four Square Solid:

  • A bright vibrant take on the classic down ball court! This game supports both the physical and mental wellbeing of students; by encouraging movement, coordination, and cardiovascular exercise, and by engaging in fun and active play, children can reduce stress, improve mood, and enhance their focus and concentration in the classroom.
