Red Tick Education: Teaching your students how to study

Mission Australia conducts one of Australia's biggest youth surveys and publishes the results in November. The 2023 survey revealed that school challenges were high on the list of difficulties faced by young people. Unprompted responses indicated that high workloads and academic pressures were among their main concerns. In past surveys, study worries frequently came up as difficulties for young people. Many survey respondents revealed that their two main sources of support are their family and friends.

As a teacher you care for your students and you know that, in spite of their outward bravado, they need your support. You stay in the profession because, in spite of the difficulties, you get excited about “light-bulb moments” and progress experienced by your students. When they remember you with gratitude, after moving on from school, you know you must have done something right.

You also know that the parents/guardians of your students are equally important in their learning journey. Red Tick Education’s aim is to provide resources that bring students, teachers and parents together on the same page. It was founded by teachers who saw the need for something to assist teachers in showing students how to study, as opposed to what to study – and the need for something to help parent/guardians be an integral part of the learning journey.

There are many programs out there for motivating students to feel confident about study but too many are focused on extrinsic, hyper-motivation and their value is lost shortly after the motivating personalities have left. Red Tick Education resources are there for the long haul. They are focused on developing self-motivation, getting the basics right and developing the right habits. It’s no serendipity that these habits become tools for life.

Red Tick Education has been providing quality study skills and time management resources for almost 2 decades. Our resources are designed to help teachers and parents/guardians become the long-term mentors for students. To help to develop the confidence to study with less stress. Confidence to know how to set up a plan (for study) that will serve them for life. Keeping them on track and therefore more likely to succeed in their studies.

The laminated planner has proven invaluable for parents to guide their child/children with daily routine and commitment. The planner does not stop working when the Internet goes down, needs no power source and no scrolling to view the big picture. It can serve a student and family for up to 6 years. It is a perfect partner for their digital tools.
