What are head lice?
Head lice are bloodsucking wingless insects, preferring warm and dark places on the scalp. Therefore, they are often found behind the ears, along the hairline and the neck. The colour of the lice can vary from sandy to nearly black then after they have fed on blood, they become dark red. The life cycle has three stages: Eggs, nymphs, and adults.
The female louse attaches the eggs to the hair with a kind of glue, no more than 1 millimeter from the scalp. The eggs take seven to ten days to hatch. The development from nymph to lice takes approximately seven days. The adult female lice can then lay up to eight eggs per day.

The active ingredient in Licener® is Neem extract, originating from the Neem tree. For thousands of years Neem has been used for its medicinal properties.
When Licener® is applied according to the directions, the extract covers, immobilises and suffocates lice causing them to die. It penetrates tiny openings at the top of the eggs (nits) called aeropyles (breathing holes) blocking the oxygen flow which causes carbon dioxide to build up, and the nits suffocate and die. The Neem extract breaks down the protective shell of the nits.

Treatment is simple. Apply Licener® direct from the bottle to dry hair, covering the hair and scalp thoroughly. Wait for ten minutes and rinse with lukewarm water. The lice and nits are suffocated, and most will wash out when the treatment is rinsed. Any residual lice/nits can be combed out if desired. There is no need to wash with regular shampoo or conditioner post treatment.
