Appsafe: Are your staff and students safe?

Testing and tagging is a necessary procedure for checking the electrical safety of portable appliances, minimising the risk of accidents and damage in your workplace.

APPSAFE are your electrical safety specialists, keeping your workplace safe, compliant and running smoothly with professional electrical testing and tagging services for your campus. Based in Melbourne and trusted across Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania and South Australia, we provide professional testing and tagging of portable appliances to Australian Standard AS/NZS 3760:2010, underpinning safer, compliant workplaces.

Testing and tagging

It is mandatory for all employers and self-employed to ensure electrical equipment is safely maintained as part of fulfilling their obligation under the Electrical Safety Standard No. AS/NZS 3760:2010. No workplace in Australia is exempt from electrical safety.

Testing and tagging of all portable electrical items has proven to be the most efficient and cost-effective method to demonstrate electrical safety compliance.

We use only the best available electrical test and tag technology, which is the Seaword PT PRO’s, with PATGUARD software. This enables us to test, download and record all appliances tested on-site and give our clients a detailed report which can be used for Auditing and Inventory purposes.

We know time is important to our customers and strive to ensure minimal disruption to our clients while testing and tagging is conducted on-site.

A record of tests is kept as part of your overall OHS risk management documentation and assists in forecasting budgets.

Four-stage system

1. Visual check: All test items are subject to a visual inspection conducted by our technicians. This involves a comprehensive inspection of the item to check for any damage or defects that may cause risks to users and make it unsafe.

2. Test: Testing is carried out on all items that pass the visual check state. Our mobile PAT tester will record the test results, item description and details of the test carried out. This will automatically update your item register.

3. Tag: Items that successfully pass the testing stage will be tagged using our colour-coded tags. These colour-coded tags will help you to visually identify the test periods. Any failed items will be identified immediately with a “DANGER DO NOT USE” tag and removed from service. Site contact will be notified.

4. Report: A certified concise report will be provided on the overall condition of your appliances and detailed information of your assets, including bar code number, item location, description, test date, next test date, test results and much more. On a separate report, a list of appliances that failed testing will be supplied, showing details of the reason for failure.
