Young Athletes: Sporting schools funding now available
Free-to-Access Sports Programs Through Sporting Schools Funding
Supporting student wellbeing extends far beyond academic achievement. As schools continue to prioritise the health, wellbeing and engagement of young people, providing opportunities for regular physical activity has never been more important — and Sporting Schools funding makes it easier to deliver.

All 15 Young Athletes sport-specific programs are eligible for Sporting Schools funding, meaning many schools can access high-quality sporting experiences at no cost. This gives schools a straightforward way to expand physical activity offerings while supporting student wellbeing and participation, without adding pressure to the budget.
Eligible programs include AFL, athletics, basketball, cricket, football (soccer), hockey, rugby league, rugby union, tennis, touch football, volleyball, ultimate frisbee and more — each adapted to suit different year levels and abilities so beginners and experienced participants stay challenged and engaged.
Why It’s Worth Using Your Funding Here
Quality sporting and fitness programs help students build confidence, resilience, teamwork and social skills while encouraging lifelong healthy habits. By creating positive and inclusive environments where every student can participate, schools can foster greater engagement, improve physical and mental wellbeing, and inspire a lifelong love of being active.
With a strong focus on inclusion and long-term wellbeing, Young Athletes helps students build a positive relationship with physical activity through both traditional sports and innovative fitness programs. Programs are curriculum aligned, delivered by experienced coaches, and designed for primary, secondary, and homeschool students across NSW.
Programs Designed to Engage Every Student
Each Young Athletes program is carefully designed to balance skill development, participation, and enjoyment. Lessons help students progressively build physical literacy, teamwork, communication, and confidence, ensuring every student feels supported regardless of experience or ability level.
Beyond the 15 sport-specific programs, Young Athletes also offers three signature programs supporting key curriculum outcomes:
- The Young Athlete – Develops fundamental movement skills including running, catching, throwing, kicking, agility, coordination, and reaction time.
- The Young Mastermind – Combines physical activity with communication, teamwork, leadership, problem solving, and strategic thinking.
- The Young Titan – A high-energy fitness program focused on strength, endurance, and discovering enjoyable ways to stay active beyond traditional team sports.

Beyond the Classroom
Young Athletes programs are also available for vacation care and OSHC providers, with flexible session formats suited to school holiday programs and one-off events.
